Hannah’s Prayer

There was a lady named Hannah. One day she went into the place of worship to pray. Hannah was brokenhearted and crying as she prayed, “Lord All-Powerful, I am your servant, but I am miserable! Please let me have a son. I will give him to you for as long as he lives, and his hair will never be cut.” Eli, the priest, was sitting near the door. Since she was praying silently, Eli thought she was drunk. He told her to “sober up”. Hannah answered, “I’m not drunk, and I haven’t been drinking. But I do feel miserable and terribly upset. I’ve been praying all this time, telling the Lord about my problems.” Eli replied, “You may go home now and stop worrying. I’m sure the God of Israel will answer your prayer.” Later, the Lord blessed Hannah with a son, and she named him Samuel. When it was time to give him to the Lord, Hannah said to Eli, “Sir, a few years ago I stood here beside you and asked the Lord to give me a child. Here he is! The Lord gave me just what I asked for. Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will be the Lord’s servant for as long as he lives.” In the midst of our troubles, we should call on the Lord and give him our troubles. We shouldn’t worry, for He hears our prayers, and will give us a way out. After we pray, we should remain in faith, that the Lord has the power to help in trouble times.
